first steps

elswhere ( see the post titled "future?" ) i have discussed the utility something akin to the alien and sediton act of 1798 would have for the forthcoming second trump adminstration and looking at the news ( not my first choice for a way to spend the day, however reality and a need to be grounded in events impinges..that said i have also elsewhere delved into my deep distrust of any news media and its ability to be anything like objective...unfiltered news, like privacy, is nonexistant ) it seems to me they have gained the same insight...
libel lawsuits are the opening gambit in the approach..."if you don't shut up about our defficiencies in terms of ability to actually engage in'public service' we will sue for libel so make sure you have the resources to defend yourself"...intimidation in a word...
the n y times article goes on to say that the supreme court has set a "high bar" which holds that "plaintiffs must prove that a publisher knew a defamatroy statment was false or acted with reckless disregard for its accuracy" and that this precedent is something that "...mr. trump and some of his allies want to see weakened or overturned..." which could be accomplished by one of those specious libel suits reaching a somewhat biased ( and fairly corrupt in some cases ) supreme court...or through legislation in a republican controlled congress ( which could also easily be called biased as the outsiders and disrupters become the majority )...at least a return to a blackstone concept of "no prior restraint"...in other words, " we will not stop you from printing or airing the story but will sue the bejesus out of you after you do because libel is anything negative factual or not"...i am inclined to think they will become deeply subjective in defining "libel" if not "sedition"...british common law as a benchmark...i can see editors and news producers and journalists in the dock...the benjamin franklin baches, william duanes, and james thompson callenders of the opposition media prosecuted while the willam cobbetts at fox cackle...on 27 july 1798 john adams was passing through newark new jersey on his way to his home...blanks were being fired from cannons to salute him..."luther baldwin happened to be coming towards john burnet's dram-shop, a person that was there [brown clark] says to luther, there goes the president and they are firing at his ass, luther, a little merry, replies, that he did not care if they fired through his ass. then exclaims the dram seller that is sedition." ( crimina dissent:prosecutions under the alien and sedition acts of 1798 p.132 ) the bartender was a federalist who turned them in and both were prosecuted...baldwin was fined $150 plus court costs and clark was fined $50 and court costs...the prosecutions reached deep...and may reach as deep again.

reality

"reality shows us an enchanting wealth of types, the abundance of a lavish play of forms, and some wretched loafer of a moralist comments: 'no! man ought to be different'. he knows what man should be like, this wretched bigot and prig." fred nietzsche in twilight of the idols...welcome to project 2025

riven?

in the four years of donny's first term the fifteen cabinet level offices from secretary of state to secretary of homeland security saw twenty office holders and twenty-three "acting" secretaries between the offical secretaries...by comparison barak obama's two terms saw thirty-two office holders and no "acting" secretaries over the eight years...trump had four national security advisors of whom john bolton lasted longest at one year and one hundred fifty-four days while michael flynn lasted twenty-four days and sandwiched in there were two "acting" national security advisors...in two terms barak obama had three...this does not touch on white huse staff or ambassadors however it does remind me that there was considerable friction and turnover among those donny appointed and then, at times, quickly wearied of...one presumes donny's fundamental intolerance for not getting his way or for hearing what he does not want to hear has not receded in the interim...we could see project 2025 dissolve into a behavioral sump of infighting bickering backstabbing and unalloyed sycophancy...to steal one of tacitus' descriptions of the reign of tiberius..."it was a tainted meanly obsequious age"...one could hope to find a spine or two in congress...unlikely as that is....there won't be one in the white house...at least not for long.

future?

been dormant a while...seems like time to pick it up again...for a while anyway...who knows what will happen...
so the polity has spoken...
and they chose this bozo...okay...majority rule...or, perhaps, ochlocracy...either way...the rules of the game say i have to accept it....they do not indicate any need for liking it...if harris had won would the bozo's minions have accepted it... no they would have ranted raved concocted conspiracy theories and rioted...just like last time...we are spared that lame response this time around...but what do i expect...some old and proven legislative strategies the hegemons have used before...to what effect they were used and if they succeeded is questionable as will future results be... 1.) xenophobia..."it shall be lawful for the president of the united states at any time during the continuance of this act, to order all such aliens as he shall judge dangerous to the peace and safety of the united states or shall have reasonable grounds to suspect are concerned in any treasonable or secret machinations against the government thereof to depart out of the territory of the united states...and if any alien so removed or sent out of the united states by the president shall voluntarily return there to, unless by permission of the president of the united states, such alien, on conviction thereof, shall be imprisoned so long as, in the opinion of the president, the public safety shall require." alien and sedition act of 1798...i can see that this authoritain and wholly arbitrary power would suit donny and his handlers...it is the president who has the power to "judge" "order" "imprison" all based on his "opinion"...not all that much rewiring needed for this completely subjective hamiltonian screed to fit the upcoming administrations needs... 2.) shut up..."that if any person shall write, print, utter, or publish, or shall cause or procure to be written, printed, uttered, or published, or shall knowingly and willingy assist in or aid in writing, printing uttering, or publishing any false, scandalous, and malicious writing or writings against the government of the united states, or either house of the congress of the united states, or the president of the united states with intent to defame the said government, or either house of said congress, or the said president...then such person, being thereof convicted by any court of the united states having jurisdiction thereof, shall be punished by a fine not exceeding two thousand dollars, and by imprisonment not exceeding two years." alien and sedition act of 1798...in an age of "alternate facts" anything can be false so anyone could be guilty...and, while the hegemons may not care for their lifestyles to be exposed, "malicious" and "scandalous" do not imply falsehood even though the subjective wording makes it seem so...no...the old alien and sedition act would serve the trumpists well without too much retooling...although the fine may be far to low to meed the needs of their utterly bottomless greed and two years is hardly enough time to make an example...so keep your mouth shut... 3.) a full bore assault on the twenty-second amendment to the constitution of the united states...can't have "presient for life" with term limits can we...and "president for life" is a stated campaign goal... 4.) a full bore assault on social security...the greedy can't have it all if there is anything like a social safety net...they want us all in debt penury and they want it now... 5.) a full bore assualt on madicare/medicade for the above stated reason... 6.) legislatively underwritten attacks and proceedings against political "enemies"...anyone who has spoken the truth to power... "If liberty means anything at all it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear." george orwell
